“I’d love to do that if I had that kinda money.” We’ve all said it. No matter how much of a money energetics expert you are, you’ve complained that lack of money was/is holding you back.
And as much as we hear online that it’s a no-no for attracting money energetically, it makes a lot of sense in a practical way. If you can’t afford to buy something or do something, you can’t do it. Right?
When people like Jen Sincero (You Are a Badass at Making Money) tell you to become ok with wanting money (that it’s not something dirty or evil), you can get behind that. Because that desire has been underneath there all along.
But then you hit this unfortunate snag: when the money isn’t there. Even though you really want it. You readily admit that money can do things. It grows your business when you invest in ads, coaches, courses, team members. Money really is the catalyst to get so many of the things you want in business and in life. So you’re openly admitting you want money.
You just don’t know how to get it.
The idea of attracting money was new to me when I started my business (and it still is but I’ve invested a lot in learning it). My life’s narrative was, work more hours, get more money. Work a ‘better’ job, get more money. The idea of attracting money is a tricky concept and I often find myself blaming lack of money for my problems.
But our problems can’t be money’s fault, now can they? ‘Money’ is one of those intangible concepts that we’ve put a tangible stamp on. Somehow pieces of paper printed somewhere in Washington (I don’t know where money is printed) became the center of the world’s economy.
(I’m not gonna lie, it still blows my mind that I have money in a bank account without *actually* having paper money in a bank account.😂)
But, in my studies of attracting money, I’ve written through (my version of thinking) the more philosophical concepts behind the energy of money attraction. I recently signed several clients in a row after a lull, and I believe this process played a big part in that.
While money is a tool to achieve things you want, it’s not what gives you the things you want.
Money is not god, the universe, or any other higher power. It’s simply a tangible object that we use to buy the things we want. So if we’re going to blame anything or anyone for a lack of money, it’s impossible for it to be money. Money does not give us things. We get them ourselves. Or god or the universe gives them to us, depending on how you look at it. (I’ll cover that in a minute.)
You can’t blame a magnet for not attaching to cardboard.
Once we acknowledge that money is not a being with a will, we then have to look at it as merely matter that magnets to substances attracting it. If we try to attach a magnet to a piece of cardboard, we don’t get mad at the magnet for refusing to stick – we would just go and find a refrigerator or something else that it can stick to.
So who’s responsible for giving you money?
You are. You’re responsible for getting your own money. It falls on your shoulders to attract that money so it comes your way.
What about the universe or god?
We also hear the money experts talking about asking the universe/god to give you money. And you’re on the other side receiving it. The next step is working out the confusion of how much do I need to do to receive money, and how much do I need to sit back and let the law of attraction do its work? Feminine vs. masculine and all that.
Here’s how I believe that works out logistically.
On one side there’s money. On the other side, there’s us. We want that money to cross over and come to our side so we can have it.
In between the money and us is the energetic force/universe/god that brings it to us. But just like a magnet needs to have a certain kind of material for it to stick, we’ve got to supply a certain kind of material for the energetic force to stick to.

What is that certain material? If we just ignore all the complicated theories and look at it simply…
Getting what we want is simply a matter of believing we can get it.
But…actually believing is not the same as saying that we believe. It’s not copying some money affirmations, writing them down, and reciting them daily. (Because you can say things all the time that you don’t really believe). So the real work comes down to changing your pre-conditioned psychological beliefs that you can’t get money.
Re-conditioning our psychological beliefs is no cakewalk, but I’ll boil it down to the two main ingredients:
Energy + Action.
Without action, energy just sits and stagnates. And without energy, action is like spinning around with nowhere to go.
Changing Your Energy Around Money
I’ve been working with Sarah Negus (a spiritual mentor) on this, and here’s the process I went through to tackle the energetics part of the equation:
1. Find out what I believe about money.
Knowing what you believe subconsciously is the first step to changing those beliefs. I found that out through journaling. One of the best exercises you can do is to write down all the things you heard about money while you were growing up.
I wrote down:
- How my parents responded when I asked for money,
- How they responded when they were around people with more money than they had,
- How they talked about money,
- And any other little attitudes or ideas I picked up during my early years.
Then I made a list of about 8 prominent beliefs I subconsciously learned.
2. Find a way to reframe the beliefs.
This wasn’t a 5-minute process. I had to make sure I wasn’t just writing down things I’ve read but don’t really believe. So I had to make sure the reframes were something I could genuinely believe whenever I say them to myself.
For example:
My money belief #7 was, “I have to work for a long time to earn the things I want.” After a bit of journaling, I came up with this reframe: “If I enjoy what I do, I already have what I want.”
Now, even when I do resort to old beliefs, I have a list of 8 personalized affirmations that I genuinely believe to be true, which can bring my energy back to the right place.
3. Have fun.
In my experience, my energy changes based on what I’m doing around the money-seeking events. If I spent the weekend hiking in the mountain, I can feel my insides more clear, I feel calmer, less attached to the outcome of my workweek ahead.
If I spend the morning, journaling, meditating, and exercising, I tend to approach my tasks for the day with more enthusiasm. Those are the days when I can get lost in my work because I’m so into it. I look up and the day is almost over without noticing.
Now, take action on the reframe.
Once you’ve jazzed up your energy, does it mean doing daily money making activities differently?
Does it mean changing up the business/outreach/money-pursuing strategy?
Or is it more of doing the same things with different energy?
And how can you know when you’re doing the right thing?
After uncovering my own childhood money beliefs, I soon realized that I’d stopped trying to make money because I’d been blaming outside forces for not getting as much as I wanted.
Sure, I was still marketing consistently, but I’d gone stagnant with it. Same ol’ same ol’ every day. So I took a break from marketing. I haven’t written an Instagram post in over a week. Instead, I decided to reach out to people who have been interested in my work in the past. I asked them directly, “Do you want to work with me?”
And whaddya know? I signed one client almost immediately. I signed another the next day. And lined up two sales calls for the following week.
I didn’t necessarily come to that decision through journaling. But once I started taking the action, it felt so right. Once I took the time to look back, I did realize it was directly related to that uncovering of those beliefs. Putting them out in the open. Reframing them. Clearing out my mental clutter.
And then the action came naturally. Followed by results.
So here’s the summary on how to attract money:
Work through your money beliefs internally. Clear out the clutter. Organize the attic. Get rid of old shit.
Then take a step back and chill in the energy between you and money. Wait for inspiration. When you get that inspiration, go out and take action. And then you get the money!
